Crush Your Hashtag Strategy in 3…2….1….
Knowing which hashtags to use on your posts can be daunting, and more than often than not we find businesses have a “hit and hope” strategy when it comes to choosing the right ones. So we thought we’d break this RIGHT down for you in the simplest way possible.
1. Branded Hashtags
These are unique to your business and you’ll only need 2 or 3 of them. They may include the name of your business, a tagline, or a campaign-specific word or phrase. We use #CliqueSocialMedia (groundbreaking right).
2. Industry Hashtags
Research what hashtags other businesses in your industry are using. For example, if you’re a baby boutique you might use the hashtag #babyOOTD (baby outfit of the day)
3. Geographic Hashtags
Remember, the ‘gram is a worldwide meeting place, so if you’re a bakery on the Goldcoast, you’ll want to be using Goldcoast-specific hashtags to reach your local market like #GoldCoastEats
With these 3 types of hashtags in mind, use the following as a guideline to create your list of hashtags (it doesn’t have to fit into this model perfectly):
- 2x personalised/branded hashtags
- 5x hashtags that have 1m+ uses
- 5x hashtags with 100k – 1m uses
- 5x hashtags with 10k – 100k uses
- 5x hashtags with less than 10k
Save these hashtags in a spreadsheet or in your notes app – You won’t want to copy and paste the same ones for each post but you can mix and match to save yourself some time in the future.
